It is almost December of 2018. The year is coming to an end and it is the best time to sit and reflect on what has happened, and what you look forward to in the year to come. This monumental form of change is among one of the most accepted forms of change and well, even welcomed with promises of change for our futures. The fact that change can only be done by you, how is it we put so much intention and focus on the sole fact that the only real change is the time and the date…?
Has this year been all that you had hoped it would be? Did you get to travel to the places you were dreaming of? Reach that job you promised yourself last year you’d have? Or maybe you stopped that nasty habit that had interfered with your social life. As this statement will surely send you into a reflective state, take a moment to remember to be grateful for whatever comes to mind, whether they be positives or negatives in regards to this past year. Let yourself sit with the fact that you made it another year and that is truly something to be grateful for.
So what if you aren’t where you expected yourself to be in life because exactly where you are is either where you chose to be or where you are meant to be. This is the time to consider and plan how you will change the next year.
I am the first to acknowledge that this year has been a whirlwind of emotions, struggles and some triumphs. As I remember setting out with big intentions and goals for the twenty-eighteen year, this year was one that reminded me that not everything happens in the blink of an eye and I am in sole control of what happens next. There is really nothing to regret or be upset about but I do find myself reminiscing on what could have been different and how I could have done it. But that is in the past and this last month of the year isn’t one to wish by in anticipation for a “fresh start”. Because in reality, our start is only as fresh as we make it and saying “next year will be different” can only get you so far.
Change has many perceptions and feelings revolving around it. Ranging from small to life-changing, change is really the only thing we fully control when it comes to creating a life we wish to have. It can be hard to see the only way out, is to move on from what is so familiar and routine and into something that challenges you to grow. After all, isn’t that the essence and the beauty within the turning of the calendar year into a “new beginning?” This new start is what you can make into the foundation to the life you have always dreamt.
So as this year comes to a close, take some time everyday to think about and express gratitude for the things you are thankful for. Take that “talk of a dream” out of your head and turn it into a plan you can realistically take on at the start of the new year. Be confident enough to make moves, big or small, in order to keep growing and striving towards what you truly want. There is never a road block that can’t be knocked down or hurdled over. Take a moment to thank 2018 for whatever it may have given you and vow to make yourself happy in 2019 no matter what obstacle it may have in store. Cheers to new beginnings and being the change you wish to see in the world.
